Magnolia Market Silobration – Part 1

Last week amidst the throes of the annual Parade of Homes, Craig surprised me with two VIP tickets to the grand opening of Magnolia Market at the Silo’s. For those of you who may not be as obsessed with HGTV as we are, this was the party celebrating the opening of the new store owned and operated by Chip and Joanna Gaines of HGTV’s Fixer Upper.

Chip and Joanna (yes, we are on a first name basis) have been our role models since we first saw them appear on their show. This fun-loving, co-preneur couple flips houses in Waco, Texas utilizing the modern farmhouse style that we love. Chip is a kid-at-heart and enjoys the elements of shock and surprise. Jo has an uncanny knack for design and is often seen lovingly rolling her eyes at her husband throughout many of their episodes. Together they make a great team and make balancing a full family, farmhouse living and running several businesses look fun and easy. And they are TV stars to boot!

The original Magnolia Market was located in a small, 1,600 square foot shop that was quickly running out of space as Fixer Upper began attracting a large national audience. One day after dropping her children off at school, Jo took notice of a large, 2.5 acre lot with a small vacant shop, an abandoned grain mill and two looming silos. After giving it some thought and prayers, she and Chip decided this would be the new location of Magnolia Market. A scant year later, the Grand Opening Party was held!

The Parade of Homes didn’t allow for much travel time to hop down to Waco and back so Craig rented a small plane (he’s currently working towards getting his pilot’s license) and in only two-and-a-half hours we were there! Our excitement was uncontrollable even in the journey. The large silos can be seen rising up from a distance, a stark contrast in their surroundings. Up-lighting spotlights the rusty rings emphasizing their already dramatic appearance.

The store is as inspiring as you might imagine it to be. It felt like fall, and isn’t fall your favorite? Displayed on the walls were vintage fireplace mantles adorned with sheaves of wheat and log piles. Thoughtful vignettes of farm troughs and cupboards offered crisp cotton towels and gourds. The entire store is so farmhouse that I almost couldn’t stand it! Joanna’s style is so similar to mine which was reflected in the muted colors, natural elements and overall simplified elegance. To bring home, we purchased a couple of signature Magnolia Market candles, t-shirts and cotton plant stalks for decoration all year round.
